The John Deere GP Wide Tread (GPWT) was tricycle-front version of the model GP tractor, with a wide rear axle. There were 203 model GPWT tractors converted to a narrower, 68-inch, rear tread for use in potato fields of the US Northeast. The last 443 GPWT tractors were built with "overhead steering", with a shaft running over the top of the hood in a style similar to the later Model A tractor. The first overhead-steer GPWT was serial number was serial number 404810. |

The new engine was introuded in 1931 on GP serial number 224100. It had lower compression but with a quarter-inch larger bore, producing slightly more power with better fuel economy. The lower compression eliminated the pre-ignition problem when using low-quality fuel, so the water-injection system was eliminated. | |
